Sainik School Satara Organises SSB training Capsule: UPSC 2024

Gearing up to better train its cadets & ultimately fulfil founding goals, Sainik School Satara (MH) organised a 5-day SSB training Program at its campus in historic city of Satara. (Report: Sainik School Satara Organises SSB training Capsule)

This intensive course was designed to enhance cadet’s preparation for the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview. The SSB interview is the next step in the selection process for students who have cleared the UPSC NDA/NA written exam.

A total of 22 cadets from Sainik School Satara & eight cadets from Sainik School Chandrapur (MH) participated in this 5 day capsule programme.

How & Why of SSB selection

For any cadet looking to pass SSB interview with flying colours, the qualities needed to ace this process need to be clearly laid out. This 5-day process/bootcamp was designed to provide clarity and develop the right mindset among aspiring cadets. Following day-wise schedule was followed:

  • Day 1 : Introduction to SSB process. Historical context & minimum basic requirements to get selected. What the accessors are looking for? and why you might not get selected!
  • Day 2 : The focus was on psychological assessments. Cadets were evaluated through tests such as the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT), Word Association Test (WAT), Situation Reaction Test (SRT) and the Self-Description Test (SDT). These evaluations are essential in understanding the psychological readiness of each cadet for the SSB interview process.
  • Day 3 : Third day focused on personal interview readiness. Along with group activities such as Group Discussions and Group Planning Exercises. The aim was to equip cadets with the knowledge and skills necessary to develop a positive attitude towards teamwork and leadership.
  • Day 4 : Focused on various Group Tasks. The Group Testing Officer (GTO) observed and assessed the cadet’s ability to tackle multiple field challenges, work effectively with their peers & subordinates and showcase leadership qualities.
  • Day 5 : Debrief session: during which detailed feedback was provided to each cadet by the three assessors.
