Sainik Schools accept girl students via AISSEE in both Class 6 & Class 9 admission. As of 2023, there are 33 Old Sainik Schools & 18 New Sainik Schools accepting girl cadets in class 6th entry. For the very first time, Girl Cadets were accepted in Class 6 in All India Sainik Schools for Academic year 2020-21 in Sainik School Chhingchhip. However, India’s exclusive Sainik School for Girls Kittur Rani is functioning since 1969.
A Brief History of Girls admission in Sainik Schools
All 33 Sainik Schools started admitting girls w.e.f. academic session 2021-22. Admission of girl cadets was first started on pilot basis in Sainik School Chhingchhip during the Academic Year 2018-19 as per the policy promulgated by Sainik Schools Society. After the success of pilot project all Sainik Schools are now open for admission of girls upto 10% of vacancies in Class VI or 10 girls, whichever is higher.
- In Academic session 2021-22, 320 girl students were admitted to Class VI in 33 Sainik Schools.
- In Academic session 2022-23, total 335 vacancies are accessible for Girl candidates in 33 Sainik Schools.
- For academic year 2023-24, Number of seats in Old Sainik Schools was 10% of total class 6 admission seats.
For academic year 2023-24, out of 37,698 girls who sat for AISSEE Exam, 25,837 girls qualified in written exam. For Academic Year 2024-25, Sainik Schools Society has released notification for class 9 admission for girl cadets.
