Sainik School Goalpara (SSG), one of India’s oldest Sainik School, reached a major milestone on 12 November 2024, celebrating 60 years of its inception with a series of grand celebrations. Sainik School Goalpara’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations paid tribute to six decades of school’s vision to nurturing discipline and leadership among its cadets. Notably, the school boasts an impressive record of producing over 300 officers for the Indian Armed Forces, alongside a host of alumni excelling in various esteemed professions across India and abroad.
The occasion was graced by His Excellency Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya (Governor of Assam) who served as the Chief Guest. In a poignant start to the ceremony, the Governor inaugurated a memorial constructed by the Old Boys’ Association of Sainik School Goalpara (OBASSG). The memorial stands as a tribute to the departed alumni whose contributions remain etched in the school’s illustrious history.
The main programme featured an impressive sequence of events, including lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Chief Guest and the welcome address by distinguished alumnus Brig Ajit Kumar Borah VSM, Group Commander, NCC Grp HQs, Guwahati. A highlight of the ceremony was the felicitation of the Chief Guest by Air Marshal Anjan Kumar Gogoi (Retd.), another distinguished alumnus, who presented traditional Assamese symbols of honour – a gamosa and a xorai.
A special recognition ceremony saw Air Marshal Gogoi and Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita, both illustrious alumni, being honoured for their exceptional service to the nation. The event also marked the release of a commemorative ‘Diamond Jubilee Edition’ publication and a specially designed cover to celebrate the occasion. The first-ever batch of the school (1964–65) presented a generous cheque of Rs 8 lakh as a heartfelt contribution to their alma mater.
Governor lauds Sainik School Goalpara’s unparalleled contribution

Gearing up to better train its cadets & ultimately fulfil founding goals, Sainik School Satara (MH) organised a 5-day SSB training Program at its campus in historic city of Satara. (Report: Sainik School Satara Organises SSB training Capsule)
This intensive course was designed to enhance cadet’s preparation for the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview. The SSB interview is the next step in the selection process for students who have cleared the UPSC NDA/NA written exam.
For any cadet looking to pass SSB interview with flying colours, the qualities needed to ace this process need to be clearly laid out. This 5-day process/bootcamp was designed to provide clarity and develop the right mindset among aspiring cadets. Following day-wise schedule was followed:
Day 1 : Introduction to SSB process. Historical context & minimum basic requirements to get selected. What the accessors are looking for? and why you might not get selected!
Day 2 : The focus was on psychological assessments. Cadets were evaluated through tests such as the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT), Word Association Test (WAT), Situation Reaction Test (SRT) and the Self-Description Test (SDT). These evaluations are essential in understanding the psychological readiness of each cadet for the SSB interview process.
Day 3 : Third day focused on personal interview readiness. Along with group activities such as Group Discussions and Group Planning Exercises. The aim was to equip cadets with the knowledge and skills necessary to develop a positive attitude towards teamwork and leadership.
Day 4 : Focused on various Group Tasks. The Group Testing Officer (GTO) observed and assessed the cadet’s ability to tackle multiple field challenges, work effectively with their peers & subordinates and showcase leadership qualities.
Day 5 : Debrief session: during which detailed feedback was provided to each cadet by the three assessors.
Sainik School Satara Principal Captain (IN) K Srinivasan sincerely expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the able assessors Cmde MT Ramesh (Retd), Capt CM Yogisha (Retd) and Cdr M Anand (Retd) for their invaluable professional contributions and support. He acknowledged their expertise which greatly enriched the training process and thanked them for their time and effort in mentoring the aspiring cadets.

Latest Sainik School News: On 26 September 2024, a sense of nostalgia filled the corridors of Sainik School Satara as Shri Dattatray Karale IPS, Inspector General of Police Nashik, returned to his alma mater. An alumnus of the Maharashtra based Sainik school’s 1984 batch, Karale’s visit was more than just a homecoming— it celebrates a legacy of giving back to school by its distinguished alumni.
As Shri. Karale was warmly received by the school Principal Captain (IN) K Srinivasan, he was given a brief on the institution’s ongoing academic, sports, and extracurricular initiatives. In the years since he walked these grounds as a young cadet, Sainik School Satara has remained steadfast in its vision to produce disciplined, well-rounded cadets who will go on to serve the nation in various capacities.
During his visit IGP Karale interacted with the young cadets of Rana Pratap House. It was a moment that will likely stay etched in the minds of these cadets for years to come. Here stands a living example of where dedication and the values instilled by their Sainik School Satara can lead them. Karale’s words of encouragement to focus not only on academics but also on sports and extracurricular activities struck a chord.
Alumni visits like these are more than just ceremonial. For young cadets, witnessing the success of an alumnus in a high-ranking role serves as a powerful motivator. They see in these visits the outcome of hard work and discipline – values that Sainik School education promotes since their inception in 1961. Shri Karale’s presence stood as a reminder that the school’s motto of Gyan, Anushasan, Sahyog – “knowledge, discipline, and esprit-de-corps” continues to resonate in the real world.
Alumni visits also underscore the significance of giving back to the Schools that shaped their early years. Whether through inspiring talks, mentoring sessions or material contributions, Alumni offer a wealth of knowledge and support to current students.
