In 2021, Government of Delhi announced to set-up its own Sainik School in Delhi. Earlier residents of Delhi had to apply in All India Sainik Schools under other-state quota for Class 6 & Class 9 entrance exams.

With 1st batch Joining in Session 2022-23, Armed forces preparatory school (SBS-AFPS), Delhi is a flagship project of the Delhi state government aiming to bring fruition to the dreams of many students filled with zeal and enthusiasm for serving the nation through the armed forces. It is 1st Sainik School of Delhi.
AFPS is an institute dedicated to training and preparing students from the 9th to 12th grades for admission to the National Defence Academy (NDA) Khadakwasla and the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as other uniformed services.

Details of Physical Fitness Test are as following: Physical fitness test
○ Running 2.4 KM in 15 mins
○ 100M in 15 seconds
○ Push UPs- 15
○ Sit UPs- 20
A candidate is awarded 25 marks for passing in each test and zero marks for failing in a test. A candidate has to score 50 marks to qualify in the physical tests. A candidate scoring less than 50 marks in physical tests is deemed to be ‘UNFIT’.
